Daily Ringing

Hear Denny Chimes as part of the daily soundscape of the Quad. The tower marks time automatically and also carries one of the University’s best-known musical traditions.

Every 15 Minutes

Westminster Quarters

Throughout the day, Denny Chimes plays the familiar quarter-hour pattern heard across the Quad, a sequence widely recognized from Big Ben in London.

Every Day at Noon

Alma Mater

When the chimes ring out the alma mater every day at noon, all of campus recognizes the song written in 1908 by UA undergraduate Helen Vickers.

More Than Chimes

Denny Chimes does more than sound the hour. Its system can also support other music, allowing the tower to take part in traditions, ceremonies, and special occasions throughout the year.

Programmable Instrument

In addition to its regular quarter-hour ringing, Denny Chimes can be programmed to play other tunes automatically. This allows the tower to support daily traditions and seasonal selections, even when no live performer is in the tower.

Manual Performance

Denny Chimes houses a carillon, played from a keyboard inside the tower by a musician known as a carillonneur. While much of the tower’s daily ringing is automated, it is also performed live for student memorials, gamedays, and special concerts.

Upcoming Live Concerts

Special performances, recitals, and event chiming at Denny Chimes will be listed here as they are announced. Check back for future opportunities to hear the tower played live.
